why life off balance?

being “off balance” is often a good thing, in my view. it implies constantly changing perspective, destabilization of the status quo, and fun. stability is important to an extent, but it can be a destructive force. for me, creativity, passion, compassion, gratitude, humor, joy… they are all fed by the dynamic energy, the challenge, the engagement that comes with instability.

i wouldn’t say my life is unbalanced, because that implies i have too much of this and not enough of that. but it is a little askew, shall we say?

about me

hi! i’m jen and this is my blog. i’m 36 years old and i live in an old house in takoma park, maryland. i consider the dc area my adopted hometown, no offense to my actual hometown of orange, connecticut. i’m smitten with a sexy boy who plays the guitar, takes photos, and shatters my eardrums with his laughter. his name is travis “metal” miller. we have a blind dog named bess and a bitey cat named tex.

my turn-ons include guitars, the color pink, trees, napping, anusara yoga, salt, brussel sprouts, watermelon, hammocks, conspiracy theories, tattoos, dancing, the ocean, old things, sincerity, tivo, video games, vegan mexican food, skateboarding, trying to surf, knitting, movies, fair trade coffee, naming things with really obvious names, simpsons references, and (in my more energetic moments) various forms of exercise. my turn-offs include being cold, the smell of lavender, and people who lack compassion. i get paid to be an attorney for the federal government. my work as a smart-ass and part-time superstar! is done on a purely volunteer basis.

a couple of things about this blog

  • if you are reading this blog on internet explorer it won’t look exactly right. if you find glitches while using any other browser, please email my webmaster and let him know.
  • speaking of my webmaster, trav worked really hard helping me set up this blog. it would totally suck if it weren’t for him. (it might suck anyway, but his mad computer skillz can’t do anything to help my writing.) so, much thanks and appreciation to him for all his help and patience.
