only in dc

only in dc do you see advertisements for military aircraft on public transit. in the new york subway you might see posters for the musical “hairspray.” in the dc metro we have posters for boeing’s C-27J spartan cargo and tactical transport aircraft.

on the red line no less! it doesn’t even go to the pentagon! i guess they are banking on reaching pentagon employees that transfer from the red line to the blue or yellow lines?

You should travel to Lexington Park, Maryland, home of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station (i.e. where they test the newest planes). There they have full billboards advertising the newest aircraft and missile systems.

The Post did an article about this a while back. Essentially these companies spend a ton of money and they are targeting an audience of like, five specific people. I don’t remember the details but it was weird.

it is weird. i can’t imagine being influenced to buy a multi-million dollar military airplane because you saw an ad for it in the metro! and i can’t imagine there are THAT many options in cargo and tactical transport aircraft to choose from anyway.

i would like to go to lexington park! can you see them flying the planes over the town? i used to want to be a test pilot when i was younger. i think i read some biography of chuck yeager that got me into it. i’m glad my dreams were dashed by gender discrimination before i was old enough to join the navy.

I think that these ads are also targetting congressmen who pass budgets and investors who might go home and look up Boeing’s stock after seeing their ads everywhere.
